And the princess ain't mad atcha Mario for busting out the playoff beard.

You can take the playa out of hockey, but you can't take the hockey out of the playa.

Remember last year when everybody, including the princess was on Evgeni's case cuz he said he was "tired"?

This year, I still ain't mad atcha!

You've earned the right to be tired, Geno.

Go home and have some of that "special soup" that your mama makes just for you.

You're gonna need it because every Russian and his mama are coming to see you.

Some of them might even claim to be your relative from St. Petersburg that you didn't even know you had.

as for you "experts" giving all this talk about how tired the Red Wings looked, and how old they're getting, please, stop the madness.

The Penguins were ready this time.

None of that , "Gosh darn we're so happy to be here. Look, there's Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsuk. Aint that Chriis Chellios? Is he really 46 years old?"

Can you believe the hockey season is almost over? Where did the 2008-2009 season go to all ready.

We're down to the wire, no not like Rachel Alexandra in the Preakness but as in Sid, Evgeni and their posse are getting ready to do it again this June.

What's with the Kobe-Lebron comparisons in the NHL? We aren't the NBA even though Commissioner Butthead did come from the NBA.

Stop the madness Alex and Sid the Kid arent Kobe and Bron-Bron.

You wouldn't see the love fest that goes on between NBA players before the game happen in the NHL. They save it till the end of the series.

Speaking of end of series, sorry Caniacs, but the Pens are rocking y'all like- well a Hurricane.

The Princess didn't get her wish.

No Original Six Stanley Cup, but at least we'll have a Stanley Cup parade in some big cities whether it be da 'Burgh, Chi-Town or the Motor City.

As nice at it would be for the economy in Hockeytown to have another Stanley Cup parade, the long suffering Black Hawk fans REALLY deserve one.

I'd like to see the Black Hawks parading down Michigan Avenue holding some hardware that even Oprah can't buy!

Before I talk about the pros and the quest for Stanley, let me give a great big shout out to both Boston University and Miami University for putting on one of the best Frozen Four College Hockey Championships the Princess of Puck has ever seen!

Forget the fact, that I was down with the Terriers and almost started crying when the Redhawks took the lead going into the end of the game, it was the most exciting three minutes of hockey I have ever seen!

If only the big guys can deliver like the college kids did.

Speaking of delivering, welcome back to the Black Hawks and the Blue Note for getting back into the playoffs after all this time.

And we're gonna get rocked like a Hurricane again as Carolina is playing the Devils in the first round.

Did anybody notice that the original pest, Claude Lemieux was quietly doing his thing in the Shark Tank?

Did anybody even notice that lemieux was on the Sharks for Godsakes?

Will the Rangers pull an upset against the Capitals?

The princess is saying no, but it would be nice.

And people, let Alex O celebrate his goals creatively.

Imagine the Princess' surprise and happiness when she looked in her email and found this headline on the NHL newsletter, "Hockey Awards Show June 18th in Las Vegas!"

I live in Vegas.

Yeah, don't laugh some of us do live here and not in casinos, either.

Some of us just happen to work in them,too.

I'm sorry that Toronto didn't get to have them for another year, but while I may not be able to afford the tickets to the show, at least I'll have a shot at them and won't have to fly cross country to get there.

I'll just take public transportation or a cab.

I can hear some of you snickering.

Why did Vegas get it, there's no hockey team there.

Yes, we do have one and they're the ECHL farm club of the Calgary Flames.

Why not LA, New York or Montreal?

Montreal had the all star game, New York is the home of the NHL offices and we have as much glitz and glamour as LA.

Maybe even more. We are, after all the place where all the beautiful people from Hollywood spend their weekends.

I know what the hangup is, and it's not the heat.

We have that in late June, not the early part of the month.

It's the gambling.

hate to break this to you, every US and Canadian city has a casino.

There's a good chance somebody on the Buffalo Sabres is telling a blackjack dealer to "let it ride" and it's not in Las vegas.

Yep, it's me again my hockey peeps! The Princess of Puck who's been neglecting her blog, but is always on the case when it comes to the coolest game on earth.

The Rangers have a new, no nonsense coach in John Tortorella.

Maybe some of the Broadway Blueshirts can focus on that big ass stnaley cup ring that he won as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

And yes, he's back, 'Lil Sean".

Hopefully he'll get his act 2gether and focus on hockey before working at Vogue Magazine becomes his new full time job.

Did someone forget to tell Don Cherry that it's not the Cold War anymore?

Alex O is a player the league should be focusing on, not to take anything away from Sid the Kid, but please.

I don't see Alex whining and bitch slapping his opponents.

And the Princess just loves those goal celebrations Alex has. Very innovative and entertaining, some hockey really needs to be-entertaining.

Note to Sid- leave the feistiness to the paid security on the Penguins, your job is scoring.

Why is it we keep bringing up this tired old subject on fighting in hockey?

Hockey Players Gone Wild

The 3rd Winter Classic was great! The Princess was really loving it.

It's all about the Orginal Six, baby!

Detroit and Chicago put on a good show, and I was digging the atmosphere with half of Wrigley Field rooting for Detroit and the rest rooting for the Black Hawks.

Good to see the Black Hawks competing in the league again.

The Princess is begging the Commish to have the 2010 edition of the Winter Classic in her fave city-BOSTON!!!

Fenway Park in winter time is just as wicked awesome as it is when the Red Sox are in town.

Forget about dreaming about a white Christmas, how about a Bruins- Rangers winter classic in 2010?

I know Montreal is hosting the All Star game is in 2 weeks, but was half of Montreal stuffing the ballot boxes or something?

What's up with half the present Canadiens and some ex Canadiens on the all star team.

What happened to that rule about every team has to have a rep?

The league can't even get their puck together in Miami and Phoenix, how are they gonna get it together in Prague or Stockholm, not to mention Moscow?

While watching the baseball playoffs last night, could someone please explain to the Princess why is it when baseball players retaliate for one of their players getting hit, it's "okay" with everybody because "that's part of the stategy and everybody expects it to happen."

But when it happens to be hockey and the same thing happens, everybody wants to hold parliamentary and congressional hearings about why hockey players are so darn violent and "can't the commissioner and the players do something about all this violence in hockey?"

Finally from the T.M.I. category: (that's too much information, my people.)

Did we really need to know from ESPN 360 or anyone else for that matter that when he was just a little troublemaking rug rat, Sean Avery would take his babysitter's dolls and dress them up?

It seems like it took forever, no it just seemed that way.

6 games later, Hockey has the big bash they were waiting for.

To think some guys were ready to spoil all the fun, even if just for one night only.

They were oh so close in Motown.

34 seconds and counting.

They were ready to but out the confetti, the streamers, the champagne, and yeah, Queen was gonna sing, "We are the Champions."

Then, booyah, Maxime Talbot has to go and spoil it for Red Wings Nation.

In Motown no less.

What a killjoy.

But you know what they say about payback-

What better way to get even and take everything.

Parade Stanley and his big friend, Conn Symthe around the Igloo for all those Penguin fans to see what they could have had.

Got to hand it to Sid and his entourage,though.

They put on a hell of a show for the Stanley Cup Finals.

Now, it's all over except for that big parade all of Hockeytown has waited patiently for.

Something to get their minds off of the lousy economy even if just for one night only.

Enjoy your party Hockeytown, you deserved it.

Overtime Hijinks

Everybody was ready to go crazy in Detroit last night.

They were 35 seconds away from planning that big blowout parade in Hockeytown.

Too bad somebody forgot to let the Penguins in on the parade plans.

Mario's boys sure spoiled the party, didn't they?

They're planning a really crazy bash in the 'Burgh.

This time it wasn't all about Sid. How about a little air time for Maxime Talbot and a whole lotta love for that pest Petr Sykora?

Call me crazy, but isn't there some superstition thing about not bringing Stanley out before his time?

You know, sort of like a guy seeing his future bride before the wedding. Big no no.

Don't know about you, but the Princess is really loving this series and we gotta beleive the hype about how cool this series was gonna be.

It's physical without everybody losing their ever loving minds and talking smack on and off the ice.

Even the hockey haters in the States are feeling the love, sort of.

It's about time they knew what the rest of us who love the coolest game on earth know- we've got a pretty cool sport.

Sid and the boys received their invites to Stanley's party yesterday.

Detriot is still waiting for their invitations but Dallas is trying to ruin their plans.

Someone forgot to tell Brendan Morrow and the boys don't bust out those fancy schmantzy third jerseys just yet, because the invites for Detroit went out 2 games ago.

They just got lost on the way to Chris Osgood's house, that's all.

Dallas basically said, "Don't forget about us. It's about believing in the black, baby, and they haven't stopped believing in Big D.

Speaking of believing in the Black and Gold, let's give a shoutout to Marian Hossa.

Yeah, I know, when you look in the dictionary under the word "choke", his picture is in there. Not anymore.

Penguin Nation just can't get enough of him and you all just can't wait to bust out that new Marian Hossa jersey to go with your Ryan Malone practice jersey.

All you Hossa haters, and you know who you are sitting up there in Ottawa, don't be clowning on him and saying, "well if I played for Penguin Nation along with Sid the Kid, I'd be the greatest thing since sliced bread, too."

Another week and the coundown is happening for teams who are really being invited to Lord Stanley's party in late May early June.

We don't riot after our team wins the Stanley Cup and we certainly DON'T riot after they've won the seventh game of an opening round series for God's sake!

Forget Detroit and Pittsburgh, did anybody forget to put the Dallas Stars on their invite list to Lord Stanley's party?

Forget Sid the kid and his buddy Evgeni, isn't time to show Marc Andre Fleury some love and mad respect, too?

Although Marc Andre, the princess isn't feeling the love when you put your stick through opposing players legs and try to take out their family jewels.

Shoutouts and Callouts

Thoughts on Lord Stanley's party:

Even though they lost in 7 games to the Canadiens, big shoutouts and major props to the Black and Gold.

No one gave you a snowball's chance in hell to win one game against the Canadiens, let alone 3.

There's gonna be a new top dog passing the Stanley Cup around in late May or early June.

Who would have thought that both Anaheim and Ottawa would be gone from the playoffs this early?

The Quack Quacks got beaten at their own game by Dallas.

As for Ottawa? Last year they brought their F game to the finals.

This year they didn't wait for the finals to bring their F game on.

It was a though the Senators just didn't give a puck this year.

Speaking of giving your all, the noise that you hear from Motown isn't the newsest car coming off the market- the Red Wings are back.

The Motor City Hitmen may have some oldies but goodies, but come playoff time, they know how to bring it.

Seems like old times seeing Darren McCarty and Chris Osgood back, doesn't it?

Now to really be old time, will we see a return to a Red Wings-Avs playoffs and all the nastiness that went on back then?

Big up and much respect to that Capitals-Flyers series.

It's got everything a hockey nut like the Princess loves-scoring, put 'em in the seats without a ticket hits, and A.O. is bringing back the excitement he didn't have in the last two games.

Word to the Orange and Black- maybe you ought to get real physical with Alexander the Great more often.

That seems to really get him pissed off and a better player.

On second thought, maybe you shouldn't get the big dude in D.C. angry.

Just leave him the hell alone.

Speaking of just plain old nastiness and rude boys-.

Don't be hating on Martin Brodeur for not shaking Sean Avery's hand at the end of the Battle of the Lincoln tunnel between the Devils and Rangers.

The Princess is all about the tradition in the coolest game on earth, but there's two traditions that I'm just not feeling at all-.

Playoff beards and shaking hands at the end of a playoff series.

If you're gonna go postal on me and act the fool during the playoffs like Avery did on Brodeur, hell I'm gonna forget all those, "act like a lady" lessons my mama taught me and walk on by.

(Although you got to give it to Avery. I'm sure some other hockey players just thought about using their sticks to screen a goalie. Leave to Sean boy to actually do it!)

Or I could remember what mama taught me,sort of.

How do you figure, the Toronto Raptors can make the NBA playoffs but the Maple Leafs cant do it in Lord Stanley's party?

April Madness

College Basketball in the U.S. has their "March Madness" in which 64 teams get an invitation to find out who's the "top dog".

The NHL has "April Madness" to find out who's the top dog on ice.

While college b-ball has a consolation tournament called the N.I.T. if you don't get an invite to the "Big Dance", the NHL has no such thing.

They just let you pack your bags and take that flight back 2 Prague, Moose Jaw, Moscow, Stockholm, or beautiful downtown Madison, Wisconsin.

Unlike b-ball, some of us have a clue who these teams are.

(Can't say that about college b-ball. UMBC, is that a bank or an insurance company? It's actually the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.)

Let's say the Music City Hitmen down in Nashville don't get an invite to Lord Stanley's party.

They aren't going to get an invite from Commissioner Bettman or anybody else in the NHL offices, let alone the NHLPA to join in the fun.

The big question for April madness isn't whether or not the Red Wings will win the Stanley Cup, but those "fans" who didn't show up all year 2 see the team win, will they now bust out the Kris Draper jerseys and show up?

What about the madness in the Eastern Conference?

If the first round were held now, the Canadiens would be playing the Bruins.

The Bruins would probobly lose some if not all of those games because, hey, the Bruins can't beat Les Habs in the regular season, why should the playoffs be any different?

If they get to the really big dance this year, will the Sens embarrass themselves and all of Canada again?

Or will everybody get their you know what together and bring their A game to the ice?

Yes, the Princess is still so not believing the hype and feeling Sid the Kid skating around the ice with the Stanley Cup.

It would be sweet though to see Joe Thornton hand the Cup to Jonathan Cheechoo, who then hands it over to JR down at the Shark Tank.

Capitals and Penguins. I LOVE THIS GAME!!! Not at all hating on the hard hitting.

How come the sports highlights only show the fights and not enough hard, clean hits?

If the Red Wings are Team Sweden and the Rangers are Team Czech Republic, can we call the Capitals, Team Russia?

Why is everybody going off the deep end about goalie equipment?

If Martin Brodeur wants to look like he's as big as the White House,who cares.

Get a life.

It's all about stopping goals, not what you wear to stop Scott Gomez from scoring against you.

It's not as though the goalies are being replaced by a Sherman Tank in front of the net, it's only their big ass goalie pads and even bigger ass gloves.

As usual, the Princess says, stop the madness and chill out about this issue.

Hockey fans don't really care if J.S. Giguere is getting jiggy with his hockey equipment that he brought from Goalie Pads R Us, we want to see Joe Thornton make him look awfully stupid in net by scoring on him.

It's almost a month before we separate the fakers from the real deal.

Aka the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Wasn't it a few months ago that we were ready to stick a fork into the Washington Capitals and calling them deader than a doorknob?

They even told their then coach, Glen Hanlon , "let the door hit your ass on the way to Reagan National Airport."

What's going on? Now we're going to have a Cap Attack in the NHL Southeast Division?

It's that time of year again.

That time when NHL players in 30 different cities find out if they're going to stay in Sunny So Cal or No Cal or shuffle off to Buffalo.

Or if they're going to see the lights of Broadway or hang out with Garth, the Dixie Chicks or Carrie Underwood down in Nashville.

Yep, it's move your butt day in the NHL, better known as the dreaded Trading Deadline.

One guy already knows where he's moving to.

He's coming back home, sort of.

And no, it's not Teemu Selanne, he did that allready.

As if Colorado wasn't a contender for Lord Stanley's cup, guess what Anaheim and Detroit- he's baack.

Scary Stuff on the ice

Why is it that when something bad happens in hockey, the US media keep showing it and showing it over and over again?

And if that's not bad enough, they have to make snide comments about it.

If you didnt see it, Im talking about what happened to Richard Zednik the other night in Buffalo.

I don't know about you, but it reminded me of what happened to Clint malarchuk incident so many years ago.

It also happened in Buffalo and he could have died also.

Thank God Zednik is going to be okay.

Suddenly hockey just isnt that important.

Imagine how Olli Jokkinen feels right about now?

It was his skate that cut his teamate.

All we can hope is that Zednik gets better real fast!
